Oleo–resin from balsam fir tree. Superior to Venice Turpentine in recipes where clarity and rapid drying are important. Canada Balsam is obtained from Canada balsam fir Abies balsamea. Highly viscous, it is unique in its transparency, pale yellow colour, and high refractive index.
